62 minutes (12 tracks) of soothing beautiful, reflective acoustic piano music.
1. BSF Theme -
Listen
I “borrowed” this song from my dear friend Doug Rice. This was the song I probably
played most at BSF and came to be a favorite of the men there.
2. The Bonsai Tree -
Listen
If youve ever truly studied a bonsai tree, you will notice some interesting
parallels to our lives. The tree is carefully pruned by a master gardener and maintains
the dignity and grace of its larger counterpart. Similarly, we are pruned and shaped
by a Master gardener so that when other folks see us, hopefully they see quiet dignity and
humility that shows the work of the Master gardener.
3. Miles Apart -
Listen
This song actually used to be a vocal song I wrote for my dear wife when we were yet
unmarried and in college. Summers apart were bittersweet and this song reflects the
melancholy of being miles apart from the one you love. Similarly, we are all sinners
(Romans 3:23) and are apart from God both physically and spiritually. For some of us,
depending on where we are at in life, we experience the bittersweet melancholy feelings of
knowing that there is a God, yet not knowing how to get into a relationship with him.
Jesus said, ...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me. This, for me, says it all. Jesus, and Jesus only is the way to God and
you must ask Him to enter your heart and live there.
4. The Judge -
Listen
Even though we may receive forgiveness of sin and a new heart that will obey God,
sometimes we will suffer consequences of our transgressions. In other cases, God allows
judgments to fall on us so that we may turn to Him and receive forgiveness of sin and the
new heart.
5. The Comfort and Joy of the Lord Part I -
Listen
Another song borrowed from Doug. I fell in love with this song the first
time I heard it and simply had to do an arrangement of it for piano. I hope that I did it
justice!!
6. The Comfort and Joy of the Lord Part II -
Listen
This song used to have a middle movement that was quite lively, but I cut it out to
shorten the song for this album. In live performance, the middle movement is still intact.
7. The Stony Ground Hearers -
Listen
In the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9), Jesus relates, ..Behold, a sower
went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came
and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and
forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up,
they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Parts of this
song exemplify what happened to the stony ground hearers.
8. Hope -
Listen
This is an instrumental written for my wife during a time of trouble just before our
marriage. We were married and played this song during the ceremony.
9. Down a Country Lane -
Listen
Fall is my favorite time of year and this song sort of reminds me of walking down a
country lane with the leaves swirling about and the smell of smoke and a hint of coolness
on the air. God is so good to give us seasons so that we never tire of the elements and
nature.
10. Soaring the Thermal -
Listen
I enjoy flying remote control sailplanes. This song reminded me of the grace and beauty
of flying things! I cant wait to fly in heaven!!
11. Coming Home -
Listen
During the recording of this album, I was walking through a field on the way to my
fathers house, and it hit me that I had walked
the trail on that field all during my childhood on the way to a friends house, school,
etc. The markings had grown dim, but I could still see the way. How is it with you and
God? Perhaps you knew Him once and then left Him or grew cold. He is waiting (just like in
the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32) and can see you a great way off. He will
run to you if you will just turn to Him.
12. Conversion Reprise -
Listen
This is the final act in the drama unfolding on Earth. When Jesus comes back to pick up
His redeemed, will you be among them? I want to be there and I want you to be there too!
Additional Liner Notes:
The songs on this album represent a period of time in my life immediately after I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour from sin....after I invited Him into my heart to help me live my life the way He would have me live it. I became the pianist for men's Bible Study Fellowship (BSF International, see: http://www.bsfinternational.org), and it was during that time, in my Father's house (the Westside church in Richland, WA), that most of the songs on this album were written. The album was recorded during the summer of 1997 at my father's house in Kennewick, WA. Since the songs were written in my Father's house and recorded in my father's house, and someday (soon!), Jesus will lead us to our house in His Father's house, you can see where the title comes from!! Each song has a special meaning to me that far transcends the actual notes on the piano keyboard and in the liner notes I describe these meanings.
Technically speaking, since this album was my first ever project of this sort, it isn't necessarily as well-produced sonically as future albums because the technology simply wasn't where it is today. The album was recorded on a Baldwin 6.5' grand piano using an Audio Technica condenser microphone which fed into a Roland VS-880 Expanded digital workstation using the on-board "Piano Hall" digital reverb setting. From there, the tracks were recorded into a Pentium computer through a Soundblaster AWE 64 Gold soundcard using Cool Edit Pro LE software. The tracks (in .wav file format) were then converted to .mp3 format and uploaded to MP3.com for final production.
